Class of 2018
Hi everyone, I'm Steven, a junior studying Statistics here at Brown. I grew up in Cary, North Carolina, a town caught in the crossfires of legendary basketball battles between UNC, Duke, and NC State. As such, it should be no surprise that I subscribe (more or less) to the mantra "Ball is Life," and seek to embody it as thoroughly and honestly as possible. I'm interested in topics of Asian masculinity, AAPI in sports, and AAPI representation in the media.

I was raised by the trees, bears, and anti-wifi hippies of Northern California. Somehow that environment managed to produce a Japanese American guy who runs on rice, music, and taiko drumming.

Hello! My name is Claribel and I grew up in Orange County, California. I'm interested in studying English and Visual Arts. As a Taiwanese-American, I want to explore the issue of colorism within AAPI communities, Asian-American representation in politics and media, and what it means to straddle the hyphen between Asian-American. I'm also very invested in consuming good Asian food, playing my uke at all hours of the day (my roommates love this), making cringe-worthy puns, doodling on my notes instead of paying attention, and binge-watching Steven Universe.

Ethnic Studies
Class of 2020
I'm a first-year Ethnic Studies concentrator trying my hardest to stay hydrated, keep up with my readings, and dismantle empire on both sides of the Pacific. I'm committed to unpacking and destroying Asian American complicity in anti-Blackness and settler colonialism, and I believe that dialogue, activism, and scholarship are all crucial in this project. When I'm not thinking about our collective histories of resistance both on the continent and in the diaspora, you can find me wishing for the temperate Pacific Northwest weather of my hometown or dreaming about noodle soups of all kinds.
